Someone in Your Corner: A Conversation with Shilpa

The Reassurance That We Don't Carry It All Alone

Confidence and self-awareness rarely appear out of nowhere; they are built in quiet, intentional spaces where women feel truly supported. Sitting down with Shilpa Patil, it becomes clear that her work with the Be Embraced Foundation was born from a recurring pattern she observed across different cultures and countries.

"I kept seeing the same gap—women who were strong and capable, yet often doubted themselves or underestimated their own worth. I realized that confidence and self-awareness don’t always happen automatically; sometimes they need to be nurtured through support, conversation, and connection."

The Power of Walking Beside One Another

When asked what the foundation's core belief—no woman should have to walk alone—means on a personal level, Shilpa steps away from organizational definitions and points directly to her own friendships. She notes that women spend so much of their lives giving to everyone else that receiving support can feel unfamiliar. For her, female friendships have been an essential lifeline through life’s shifts.

"Female friendships are therapeutic! My girls have been there with me through life’s highs and lows... Just knowing they are there gives me a sense of strength and comfort that I can’t quite explain."

She emphasizes that real community isn't about offering quick fixes or unprompted advice. Instead, it is about creating a secure environment where women can be vulnerable without fear of judgment. As Shilpa puts it, "Sometimes the most powerful thing we can give another woman isn’t advice or solutions—it’s simply the reassurance that she doesn’t have to carry it all alone."

An Unexpected Mirror for Personal Growth

Stepping into a leadership role focused on empowering others often comes with an unexpected turn. While Shilpa initially joined Be Embraced to help other women recognize their potential, the experience quickly turned into a journey of self-discovery.

Leading these conversations forced her to confront her own internal assumptions and unspoken narratives. She candidly shares that stepping up to help others ultimately revealed what was missing in her own life:

"One thing this journey has taught me is that sometimes we are drawn to a cause because we need it ourselves. In many ways, it has become a journey of self-discovery as much as one of service."

Expanding the Circle

Reflecting on the foundation's first year, Shilpa is most moved by how quickly women open up when given a safe space. Looking ahead, her goal for the next chapter is simple: expand those spaces so that honest, transformative conversations become second nature for women everywhere.

By creating environments where support is woven into daily life, Shilpa and the Be Embraced team are helping women recognize their intrinsic worth—one conversation at a time.
