Someone in Your Corner: A Conversation with Sophia

With a career rooted in social work, Sophia understands the technical side of support—but through Be Embraced, she has discovered the transformative power of simply being seen.

The Spark: The Wisdom of the Circle

For Sophia, the motivation to join the board was rooted in a reflection on her own past. She recognizes that a community of women isn't just a "nice-to-have"—it's a life-altering resource. 

“I would have avoided dangerous relationships, toxic friendships, and made much different choices if I had a community of women to share wisdom and perspective.” 

This realization fueled her desire to build the very support system she once needed. To Sophia, "No woman should have to walk alone" means more than just a presence; it’s the quiet strength of knowing someone is rooting for you. “Just having someone in your corner makes all the difference in a woman's life.”

A Vision of "Home"

When Sophia imagines "Paradise on Earth," she doesn't see a distant dream; she sees a living, breathing community. She envisions a space where women of all ages and walks of life can trade their strengths. “A Paradise on earth in action would look like a place that women call home," she explains. It’s a sanctuary designed for the entire spectrum of the female experience—a place to go “when life gets hard and also when life is going well!”

The "Finally!" Moment

Having spent a year on this journey, the most moving moments for Sophia happen in the quietest exchanges during our events. She loves watching the faces of women during group discussions. 

“You can see the look on some faces that say, 'Finally! Someone gets it!' I can tell that for some women, they actually truly feel seen and understood.” 

For Sophia, these moments are the ultimate proof that the foundation is hitting its mark.

The Growth: From Expert to Observer

Perhaps the most profound part of Sophia’s journey has been her own personal evolution. Coming from a social work background, her professional life often involves being the "expert" who decides what is best based on data. Be Embraced has challenged her to let go of that control. 

“This journey has helped broaden my perspective that 'there is no right way for everyone,'” she reflects. “I’m learning to trust that women will intuitively find exactly what they need without being controlled.”

Embracing the Next Chapter

As we look toward the future, Sophia isn't looking for a rigid five-year plan. Instead, she is excited by the very thing that used to be challenging: the unknown. “I'm excited for not knowing where the next chapter will take us," she says. "We have already made so many pivots and adjustments; I’m embracing the fact that we will grow in the direction that’s meant for us.”
