Unapologetically You: A Reminder That Self-Care Is Not Selfish

Choosing to step out of a demanding life and declare an afternoon entirely for your own well-being is a fierce act of defiance. Even as Vancouver was buzzing with the energy of the FIFA matches outside, our circle gathered with a single, shared intention.

The theme of the afternoon, "Unapologetically You," invited women to reflect on something many of us struggle with: giving ourselves permission to prioritize our own well-being. The message was simple yet powerful—if we want to continue showing up for our families, friends, communities, and careers, we must first learn to show up for ourselves.

We were honoured to welcome Rupa Arora and Susan Heathcote from Urospot, who shared valuable information about pelvic health and the importance of prevention. One of the stories that resonated deeply was hearing why a retired nurse chose to become involved with Urospot after her nursing career. Having witnessed firsthand the challenges many women face as they age, she was passionate about helping women avoid unnecessary hardship through education, awareness, and proactive care.

The conversation may have touched on a topic that many women are hesitant to discuss openly, but that is exactly what made it so powerful. Creating a safe space to talk about issues that affect quality of life allows women to seek support, learn from one another, and realize they are not alone.

We were also joined by Jessica Taylor owner of Pleasant Hypnosis, whose warmth, energy, and generosity immediately made her feel like part of the Be Embraced community. Jessica shared practical tools rooted in hypnotherapy and NLP, leaving attendees with a simple yet powerful technique to regulate stress and calm the nervous system. In a world where overwhelm has become increasingly common, having a tool that can be used anytime and anywhere felt like a gift.

What stood out most was how quickly the women in attendance began thinking beyond themselves. Throughout the event, conversations shifted toward friends, sisters, mothers, daughters, and colleagues who could benefit from the information being shared. The knowledge didn't stop with those in the room—it immediately began creating a ripple effect.

As always, the connections were heartfelt and genuine. New faces blended seamlessly with familiar ones, creating an atmosphere of acceptance, trust, and belonging. Women shared experiences, exchanged resources, and supported one another in ways that brought our belief that "no woman should have to walk alone" to life.

Perhaps the greatest lesson of the day was a reminder for our team as well. It can be easy to measure success by attendance numbers, but this event reinforced something we have seen time and time again: the women who need the information are the women who show up. Every event matters. Every conversation matters. Every connection matters.

The spark we hope attendees carried home is this:

You are the one person responsible for your own well-being.

Caring for your mind, body, and soul is not selfish—it is essential. The more unapologetically you embrace yourself, the more capacity you have to positively impact the world around you.

Thank you to Rupa, Susan, and Jessica for sharing your expertise, your passion, and your hearts with our community. Together, we continue to create spaces where women feel seen, supported, empowered, and embraced.
